The 18th of October 2019, massive revolts spread throughout Chile, bringing the country to a halt due to ruthless inequality. Long and extended demonstrations of discontent, strong repression, thousands of people in the streets and of course many cameras. Among those thousands of cameras were us. On the second day of riots we created a collective, Brigada de Registro, and with it we went out to the streets to film. In this exhibition we commemorate the anniversary of the uprising showing part of our work to open a space of dialogue between people, images and words. Riots are still going on, never completely gone, the protesters are coming back to the streets and with it violent repression returns.

The struggle of so many people, who lit up and united for a dignified life questioning the operating system. The many people, the many cameras, the many looks today are reflected in the variety of images. Through these different looks, perhaps a piece of history can be told.

Today we are separated, isolated, in a completely new state of emergency. We went from a period of intense union, dialogue and coexistence to virtual dialogue and self-reflection. The global crisis, of an abusive, savage and unbridled system that continues to infect, becomes even more apparent.

It is seen in different parts of the world. How do we get here? What is the current pact between survival and progress?

We keep accumulating new questions and it is through dialogue between ourselves and collective images that we try to answer them.

El 18 de octubre de 2019, revueltas masivas se extendieron por todo Chile, paralizando el país debido a la despiadada desigualdad. Largas y prolongadas manifestaciones de descontento, fuerte represión, miles de personas en las calles y por supuesto muchas cámaras. Entre esas miles de cámaras estábamos nosotros. En el segundo día de disturbios creamos un colectivo, Brigada de Registro, y con él salimos a la calle a filmar. En esta exposición conmemoramos el aniversario del levantamiento mostrando parte de nuestro trabajo para abrir un espacio de diálogo entre personas, imágenes y palabras. Los disturbios continúan, nunca han desaparecido por completo, los manifestantes están volviendo a las calles y con ello la represión violenta.

La lucha de tantas personas, que se encendieron y se unieron por una vida digna cuestionando el sistema operativo. Las muchas personas, las muchas cámaras, las muchas miradas de hoy se reflejan en la variedad de imágenes. A través de estas diferentes miradas, tal vez se pueda contar una parte de la historia.

Hoy estamos separados, aislados, en un estado de emergencia completamente nuevo. Pasamos de un período de intensa unión, diálogo y convivencia, al diálogo virtual y la autorreflexión. La crisis global, de un sistema abusivo, salvaje y desenfrenado que sigue contagiando se hace aún más evidente. Se ve en diferentes partes del mundo. ¿Cómo llegamos aquí? ¿Cuál es el pacto actual entre supervivencia y progreso?

Seguimos acumulando nuevas preguntas y es a través del diálogo entre nosotros y las imágenes colectivas que intentamos darles respuesta.
